Continuing Professional Development
Alongside my regular clinic work, I am continuing my professional development through an advanced massage qualification that includes structured clinical case studies.
This work gives me the opportunity to explore assessment and treatment planning in greater depth, following progress over time rather than focusing solely on individual sessions, supporting a thoughtful, measured approach.
The intention here is simple, to continually refine how I assess, reason and treat.
What this means for clients:
Advanced case study clients receive:
-
Extended consultation and assessment time
-
Detailed discussion of symptom history and patterns
-
Targeted remedial massage and manual therapy
-
Clear homecare guidance where appropriate
-
Ongoing review and adjustment of approach
This approach is particularly suited to persistent or recurring musculoskeletal pain where a more structured plan is beneficial.
All clients are appropriately screened, and medical assessment is required where indicated.
Areas recently explored
Persistent Headaches
Several recent case studies focused on individuals experiencing ongoing headaches that had already been medically assessed and cleared of serious underlying causes.
Through detailed consultation, treatment focused on likely muscular and postural contributors. In these cases, symptoms settled well especially where simple home exercises were completed consistently between sessions.
Frozen Shoulder
Frozen shoulder is stage-dependent and often described as something that improves with time. In one documented case, a structured, stage-aware approach supported gradual improvement in movement and function.
Treatment combined gentle mobilisation techniques alongside remedial massage, while also addressing compensatory strain that had started to build in the opposite shoulder.
Rheumatoid Arthritis (Medically Managed)
In a client living with long-term, medically managed rheumatoid arthritis, the focus was on easing protective muscular tension and supporting more comfortable movement.
The aim was not to treat the underlying condition, but to help the body around it feel less guarded. Improvements were seen in mobility and overall comfort over time (including chronic headaches).
Chronic Lower Back Pain
Several recent cases involved longstanding lower back pain, including individuals with a history of disc herniation. Although the acute phase had passed, discomfort and reduced mobility were still limiting day-to-day activities.
Treatment combined targeted massage and progressive home exercises to improve comfort and rebuild confidence in movement.
Important Considerations
Advanced case study work forms part of my ongoing professional development and is structured and documented accordingly.
It’s important to note:
-
Not all conditions are suitable for manual therapy
-
Medical assessment is essential where appropriate
-
Outcomes vary from person to person and recovery timelines differ depending on history and stage
-
Consistency between sessions makes a significant difference
Each case reflects an individual experience. No specific outcome can be guaranteed.
Future Case Study Opportunities
At intervals throughout the year, a limited number of case study spaces become available.
These places are offered to individuals who:
-
Present with suitable musculoskeletal or movement-related concerns
-
Are willing to commit to a structured plan over several sessions
-
Are comfortable with progress being documented anonymously for learning purposes
If you are interested in being considered for a future case study place, you are welcome to get in touch for further information.
Spaces are limited to ensure appropriate time and attention is given to each client.
